Accessing Services

The Children’s Integrated Speech and Language Therapy Service for Hackney and The City is a provider service. We accept commissions from a range of sources to provide comprehensive services. There are two categories of referral.

Category 1

  • children under 5 (who are not in school, school nursery or nursery school)

Children in this category must live in Hackney or The City. We run drop in clinics, that we call ‘Talking Walk-ins’ at many locations around the borough. The details are on the home page or follow this link (LINK). No referral is needed, so parents can just be directed to the nearest ‘Talking Walk-in.’

If you prefer a written referral please either complete a referral form (see below) or write a detailed letter to and email it to us at sltinfo@homerton.nhs.uk or post it to:

A free DVD explaining the services to under 5s is available to all Hackney parents from the above address. DVDs can only be delivered to Hackney postal addresses.

Category 2

  • children and young people who are over 5 also
  • children who are under 5 and attending a Hackney Learning Trust or Sir John Cass Primary School including school nurseries and nursery schools

To receive the main service children and young people in this category must attend a Hackney Learning Trust school, academy, pupil referral unit, BSix College or Hackney College or Sir John Cass Primary School in the City.

For students over 5 who attend schools outside of Hackney and The City please refer to the Speech and Language Therapy service where the school is located. If that borough does not offer a service we may offer a limited family based service.
